Lucretia Lawson Godbold joined the heavenly choir on March 1, 2008. She was born October 9, 1942 in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated from Savannah Country Day School and was Magne Cum Laude at Valdosta State University, winning the prestigious Durrenberger Award in 1973. For a brief time, she was the Director of Volunteer Services for Candler General Hospital and she also taught for the Chatham County School System.

Lucretia was an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and organist beginning her first organist position at the age of 16 for Whitfield United Methodist Church. She served St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church as organist 19 years. She taught piano for 44 years.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Godbold, Sr. of Savannah; three sons, Edmond Long of Woodstock, Georgia; Gregory Long of Longwood, Florida; and Douglas Long of Kennesaw, Georgia; and grandchildren, Nigel Long, Josie Long, and Connor Long.

Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church with The Reverend Jim Shumard, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Memorial Garden.
